The continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of the Earth is known as the water cycle, or the hydrological cycle. The mass of water on Earth remains fairly constant over time but goes though a number of changes along the way from evaporation to condensation to precipitation. As a part of this process water finds its way over land and through the local geology. In doing so, water goes through different forms: liquid, solid (ice) and vapor and along the way it will pick up by means of erosion different metals and minerals found in the earth. Along with the minerals the water column is exposed to many different types of bacteria growth, both good and bad.
