Ground Water Hydrogeology

The design of pumping tests and evaluation of pumping test data should always be carried out under the supervision of a professional hydrogeologist. A professional hydrogeologist is a person who is registered as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia with competency in the field of hydrogeology.

Well testing should be done under the supervision of a professional hydrogeologist. The hydrogeologist will determine the appropriate pumping test flow rate, schedule of water level readings, duration of the test, pump setting depth, and water sampling requirements. The hydrogeologist will also be aware of the current provincial government guidelines for well testing and any applicable local bylaws covering well tests.

Following a pumping test, a hydrogeologist is required to analyse the pumping water level drawdown and recovery data to determine a safe, long-term well yield. A hydrogeologist will make this determination to accepted engineering standards and in accordance with provincial government guidelines and applicable regulations. The hydrogeologist’s report will include the recommended pumping rate and permanent pump set depth. A complete report will also have recommendations for well operation and maintenance plus ongoing water potability sampling.

Considering the above, we always recommend using the services of a professional hydrogeologist for well water supply engineering.
